How to get birds to backyard for bird watching?

I live in Oregon and there a a few bird types but I want to get different ones like more finch type birds.

Public Comments

1. stale bread,

2. put out few feeders with different seeds in each to see which kinds attract birds, since not all birds eat same seeds, some eat sunflower, others cracked corn, some mixtures, etc. tried it here, and has worked for many years in cold nj good luck. love to watch them, as do cats

3. You should put out some bird feeders and some bread on the ground and make sure you're in a quiet spot or no birds will come around. Be patient and wait for the birds to come to you, don't go looking for the birds. You might scare them away.

4. Simple. A few bird feeders each with a different type of feed. You will have lots of birds in no time.

5. try peanut butter on pine cones birds go nuts over them good luck

6. One of the yahoo sites said that finches like seeds, fruit, buds and weed seeds. Also there is a good site on bird watching and feeding it is: http://www.wild-bird-watching.com/Bird_Seed.html Maybe this will help you

7. Both birdfeeders and birdbaths will attract many types of birds to your backyard. Finches like to eat sunflower seeds, millet, cherries, mulberries, blackberries, suet, nectar, and much more. Check out this link for more information:

Also, the type of feeder you put out makes a difference. Finches like tube feeders (with small holes) and special finch sock feeders. The tube feeders have long tubes with many small perches for the finches to sit on.
Hope that helps and happy finch watching!

8. Yes, you should get a variety of seeds and different sized feeders.

9. It takes a while to get a backyard feeder established. You can put out a lot of fancy stuff and maybe attract a few birds. You can put out suet cakes and attract a few more, We have found the easiest way to attract birds in the winter is to feed them in the summer. When you feed year round they will come to the feeders in the fall and winter.

10. I put all kinds of bird food out in the back. Somehow they find it. All it takes is a few birds to start eating and other birds flying over head sees the birds eating and they fly in to get their share. Next thing you know there are many all over the place. My birds out in my yard wait for me to feed them. (They sit in trees and when they see me they fly all around me.....Real neat) Sure is fun.

11. Put up a few feeders. If want more finch like birds put a Thistle feeder up. :)

12. you should make bird feeders and hang them on a tree.just take a pinecone and spread peanut butter on it, then cover it with bird seeds.
