1. At the moment there is no outbreak of bird flu.
The most recent cases where reported from China, and some in remote areas in India. But nothing to worry about.
While in Asia,
* Only drink labeled bottle water
* Do not eat hawker food (your European stomach is not used to it)
* Do not eat raw vegetables (salads)
* Wash your hands frequently (carry wet tissues with you)
etc. etc.
Unless you travel to Tokyo or Singapore.
The hygiene standards are better there.
Enjoy your journey

2. Right now, the H5N1 strain is spreading around the globe with the help of migratory birds.
Many countries, including the UK, have found H5N1.
Right now, H5N1, is primarily a bird disease. It isn't capable of spreading easily to humans, or from human to human.
As far as precautions......At this point, other than regular sanitary hygiene, I would not recommend any specific 'bird flu' precautions.
Wash your hands frequently (which you should be doing anyway)
Do not touch wild/domesticated animals (which you shouldn't do anyways) and if you do, wash your hands immediately --- this is for more than just the bird flu!
Bird flu (H5N1 and many other strains of influenza A) can be found in various types of birds and other animals. There isn't necessarily one type.
I wouldn't worry too much about it at the moment. Just go on about your trip and follow basic hygiene measures.
